Even for the Spiritually Strong, Physical Exercise Can Energize You

3 min

Many believers are hungry for a stronger spiritual walk and to be spiritually strong, yet they are physically exhausted. They need to strengthen their body.

They love God. They desire to spend time in His Word. They want to serve, help others and fulfill their calling—but low energy, fatigue and unhealthy habits often slow them down.

God created your spirit, soul and body to work together. When your body is weak and depleted, it can affect every part of life. That’s why physical exercise matters. It supports the stamina, energy and discipline needed to run your race well.

Now, physical exercise is not more important than spiritual growth. Paul wrote, “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8). Paul did not say exercise has no value. He said godliness carries eternal value while physical exercise provides earthly benefit. Both matter—and both require consistency.

The good news is you don’t need expensive equipment or hours in a gym to begin to strengthen your body. Small, daily actions can produce lasting results. As Gloria Copeland says, “In consistency lies the power.”

Faith Requires Action

“Faith without good deeds is useless.” —James 2:20

Faith responds. Faith moves. Faith acts on what it believes.

The same principle applies to physical exercise. If you want greater physical energy and endurance, you must move your body.

Kenneth Copeland himself has demonstrated that discipline for decades. Into his 80s, he has remained committed to daily physical exercise and strengthening his body with purpose and determination. Why? Because he understands that caring for your body helps you stay equipped to do what God has called you to do.

Our team here at KCM is blessed to have facilities and personnel to help us with physical activity and wellness.

John Heart, fitness trainer and wellness coordinator, says it this way:

“Faith means little if you don’t back it up with action.”

That applies spiritually and physically.

Healthy habits are built one choice at a time. Consistent movement produces greater stamina, mobility and vitality over time.

So, get up and move!

Strength Develops One Step at a Time

“In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.” —2 Samuel 22:30

Whether physically or spiritually, everyone starts at a different place. Applying healthy habits is a discipline in submission to the Word and how we are to treat our bodies. There are some fundamental physical exercises that can help most everyone, no matter where they are beginning.

Physical Exercise Is Stewardship, Not Vanity

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?” —1 Corinthians 6:19

Physical exercise is not about vanity or appearance. It is about stewardship.

God gave you a body to carry out His plan for your life. Strengthening your body helps position you to serve others, fulfill assignments, and live with greater focus and energy.

At KCM, the goal behind physical wellness is not performance, it is longevity. The desire is to help people remain strong and effective for the long run.

Fitness trainer Zalika Heart says it this way:

“Honor the gift of this body God has given you.”

That perspective changes everything.

As you begin exercising consistently, you may notice:

  • Increased energy
  • Better endurance
  • Improved focus
  • Greater confidence
  • Better daily mobility

Physical health supports emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.

Your body responds to movement. Your mind responds to discipline. And healthy routines support a stronger life overall.

Start Today

You do not have to overhaul your entire life overnight. Just begin.

There are two foundational exercises that provide all-over benefits, improve mobility and longevity. They are the squat and the pushup.

Squats help strengthen your body, especially the legs, hips and core muscles that support everyday movement.

Pushups help strengthen the chest, shoulders, arms and core. They also help maintain healthy bones and functional movement as the body ages.

Get Up and Move

Physical exercise energizes you because movement strengthens the body God designed for you.

You do not have to start big. You simply have to start. Build healthy habits one day at a time. As your endurance increases, you will be better equipped to serve, lead, give and fulfill what God has called you to do.

Your body is a gift from God. Steward it well. Strengthen your body with purpose. Stay consistent. Get up, get moving, and give God something to work with.
