Exercise Time Management To Strengthen Your Faith
Doctors agree: Exercise is essential for a healthy body and vibrant life. Whether it’s a sunrise walk in your neighborhood or a strength training session in the gym, consistent exercise strengthens your body and sharpens your mind.
The same is true spiritually. Faith, when exercised, grows strong. This month we want to encourage and equip you when it comes to exercising faith through better time management.
If you’ve ever wondered, Where did the time go? you’re not alone. The good news is: When you manage your time well, you’ll discover you have more of it than you thought. Let’s look at how to exercise your faith through time management.
Faith Exercise #1: Evaluate Your Time
“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).
The first step is to determine where your time is actually being spent.
Most people don’t realize how much time is available to them until they take a closer look. When you begin to evaluate your daily routine, you’ll often discover pockets of time, two minutes here and three minutes there, that can add up to a lot.
A Simple Breakdown of Your Day
To easily evaluate your time, categorize your daily activities:
- Good Morning!
Getting up, getting ready, preparing meals - Off to Work You Go!
Work hours, commute time, chauffeuring children and running errands on the way home all fit in this category - Evening Activities.
Dinner, family time, household routines - Night-Night.
Rest and sleep - Leisure Activities.
Entertainment, hobbies, personal time
Whatever remains is where opportunity lies.
Application
- Use our downloadable chart to record how you spend your time
- Identify time that you may be simply waiting or not using effectively
- Ask: Is this helping me or distracting me?
Awareness is the first step toward a more productive faith life.
Faith Exercise #2: Prioritize What Matters
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else…and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33).
Not everything on your list is equally important. Decide what matters most to you. Here’s a suggestion: Write down the most important things you need to do each day and complete those first.
One company gave employees a simple tool: a notepad titled The 6 Most Important Things To Do Today. Each day, they focused on those priorities first.
The result? Increased productivity, greater success and a stronger sense of accomplishment; all because they focused on what truly mattered.
In your faith life, the same principle applies. When you focus on what matters most, your life becomes more effective and more peaceful.
Application:
- Identify your top priorities each day (especially spiritual ones)
- Complete those first before less important tasks
- Decide in advance what can wait if time runs short.
Prioritizing your time helps you stay focused and aligned with God’s plan.
Faith Exercise #3: Make Time for the Lord
“My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words” (Proverbs 4:20).
Time with God should be intentional, not accidental.
Set aside time for:
- Prayer and Bible study
- Listening to teaching or an audio Bible while driving or doing daily tasks
- Keeping scriptures readily available throughout your day.
God’s Word brings life and strength when you give it your attention.
Results of This Faith Exercise
- Stronger, more confident faith
- Peace in the middle of challenges
- Readiness with Scripture-based answers
- Confidence that God is working on your behalf
Faith grows where time with God is consistent.
Faith Exercise #4: Use Your Free Time Wisely
“Then Jesus said, ‘Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile’” (Mark 6:31).
Be wise in your use of free time. Consider enjoying rest and renewal or family bonding. Look for a movie to watch or a book to read that builds your faith.
Application:
- Take time to rest and renew your mind and body
- Organize a family activity such as playing Jenga or completing a puzzle
- Use short moments to meditate on scriptures.
Little changes in how you use your free time can lead to big results.
Finally
Since no one can add more hours to their day, the goal is to use every hour on purpose.
When you evaluate your schedule, prioritize what matters, and make time for the Lord, your faith will grow stronger every day.
God has given you everything you need to live a victorious life. As you begin to exercise time management in a faith-filled way, you’ll find yourself more focused, more peaceful and more confident in His promises. Start today. Give God your time and watch Him multiply the results in your life.
