How KCM Disaster Relief Delivered Hope to Tornado Victims

Toward the end of April and into the first week of May, several North Texas counties were hit with three substantial tornadoes. The wreckage and damage to life prompted Kenneth Copeland Ministries Disaster Relief into action.

The National Weather Service reported that during a series of seven tornadoes, tumultuous storms, damaging winds up to 90 mph, softball-sized hail, flash flooding, and dangerous lightning occurred. And amid that turmoil, over 1,000 KCM Partners in Wise, Parker and Palo Pinto counties reside.

“Our priority was to ensure the safety and well-being of our Partners and Friends,” said KCM Disaster Relief Manager Jonathan Copeland. “We understand the majority of people aren’t checking their voicemail, or even able to do so, during natural disasters. When we are able, we will go to them. This was in our own backyard, so there was no hesitation.”

The cities of Runaway Bay, Springtown and Mineral Wells were hit by two EF2s and an EF3 tornado, respectively, over a span of four days. KCM Disaster Relief teams estimate an average of 340 Partners were affected in each North Texas city.

“We literally went door to door across each city to check on the welfare of our Partners,” continued Copeland. “We believe that faith protected them during the storm, but it needed to be God’s love to touch them after it.”

Among the many Partners the KCM outreach team visited was Hugh and Sandra Gibson, a married couple of 50 years and KCM Partners for 30 years. The damage done to their property was minimal, aside from two mature trees uprooted, but KCM putting a human touch to its promise of partnership meant the world.

“It got heavy and [we] heard three loud booms on the roof. When it was all over, we saw a hole in our garage but were thankful that we were in better shape than others,” they shared. “God is faithful.”

After giving some of the $12,000 used for victims of the North Texas tornadoes to the Gibsons, they prayed with our Disaster Relief team for the welfare of everyone affected and for the right contractors to help all their neighbors.

“Thank you, Lord, for these folks that care,” Hugh prayed. “They showed your love and thank you for the blessings they’ve been to us.”
